CONQUER CACNA1A
CARE FOR OTHERS
The Bee-lievers was founded by a Mandan Family to support a loved one who is diagnosed with a CACNA1A variant. We all have 2 copies of the CACNA1A gene which is responsible for communication between brain cells. If there is a change on a CACNA1A gene, individuals can experience lifelong symptoms including neurodevelopmental differences, epilepsy, ataxia, hemiplegic migraines, and movement disorders.
Currently, there are no targeted treatments or cure for CACNA1A-related disorders.
We have a mission to CONQUER CACNA1A.
We do this by spreading awareness & supporting organizations facilitating research for a targeted treatment or cure for CACNA1A - related disorders. A maximum of 30% of our donations go to supporting this life-enhancing research.
We have a mission to CARE FOR OTHERS.
The individual affected by the CACNA1A variant is a sweet and cheerful girl who loves to help others feel happy. For this reason, a minimum of 70% of our donations stay local for our Bee-Cause We Care Kits - given to local entities that help children; We Bee-lieve Therapy Scholarships - help with out-of-pocket costs for therapy; We Bee-lieve Equipment Grants - help with out-of-pocket costs for adaptive equipment.
At The Bee-lievers, we are committed to being responsible stewards of every dollar entrusted to us. Rather than following a fixed percentage model, our Board of Directors conducts quarterly disbursement meetings to thoughtfully evaluate how funds can create the greatest impact.
During each quarterly review, the board considers several factors, including:
-
Current account balances
-
Anticipated operating expenses
-
The number and needs of therapy scholarship applicants
-
Opportunities to advance CACNA1A research
Based on these considerations, funds are allocated to both our local programs—such as Therapy Scholarships, Adaptive Equipment Grants, and Bee-Cause We Care Kits—and to research initiatives focused on improving the lives of individuals living with CACNA1A variants.
This flexible approach allows us to respond to the changing needs of our community while remaining committed to our dual mission: Conquering CACNA1A and Caring for Others. Every decision is made with the goal of maximizing the impact of each donation and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our programs.
